Merck, KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany's cross-business effort to stem the tide of Zika in Latin America

In light of the ongoing Zika virus epidemic in Latin America, Merck, KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany is in close contact with governments and militaries of Brazil and Colombia to support and discuss possible alternatives on prevention. We are further investigating the effectiveness of IR3535, our insect repellent, in a variety of settings. IR3535, in other studies, has been shown to be the best indication for pregnant women due to its reduced allergy effects.

Diabetes Academy in Yemen

In 2014, Merck, KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany implemented the Diabetes Academy program in Yemen, an initiative committed at educating health care practitioners about the latest diabetes management guidelines. The successful Diabetes Academy program, endorsed by the Yemen Diabetes Society, comprises lectures, group meetings and 12 modules to deliver key messages to doctors, thus enhancing awareness and accessibility of knowledge for better patient outcomes.

e-Health initiative in Kenya

In partnership with the Kenyan Ministry of Health, Merck, KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany has launched an e-Health initiative, opening two e-health clinics in Kenya to improve access to cancer care. The initiative allows patients and healthcare providers in remote areas to interact with specialists from a referral hospital conferencing technologies. Thus, Merck, KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany provides patients with direct access to effective medical therapies. The next phase of the initiative will include upgrading telemedicine capabilities to enable digital patient examination.

Thyroid Awareness Program in Indonesia

Merck, KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany has implemented a Public-Private Partnership to conduct an awareness program on Thyroid disease via seminars. Merck, KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany has launched training workshops in 6 different cities in order to educate primary care physicians and specialists on thyroid disease for early detection and management.
