Healthcare New Businesses is a new entity within the Healthcare division working at the interface of Business/Commercial and Research & Development. We develop selected promising pipeline assets through external development and financing partners and support the maximization of the biopharma pipeline by helping to increasing ‘shots on goal’. We are part of the R&D organization and governed by the Healthcare Executive Committee (HEC).
In this role we interact with external stakeholders such as Development companies and Venture capital funds as well as internal interfaces from Research & Development, Commercial/Franchises, Manufacturing and Corporate functions such as Finance/Accounting and Intellectual Property. We concluded our first development agreement in March 2017 and is in the process of strengthening our operations to move our first innovative asset through phase II and III in collaboration with the development partner. We operate globally with key people based in Boston/US R&D hub or at the company headquarters in Darmstadt/Germany.
Your role: The position targets graduates with a strong interest in business AND science and a future career path within the Pharma/Biotech industry. For a period of 6-12 months the intern will support senior leaders of the entity for operational as well as deal generation activities for selected assets. In addition, he/she will have the opportunity to work directly on the partnering activities related to the ramp-up of the new development model for the first successfully partnered asset. The intern will receive active mentoring and coaching, liaising with the senior management team of the entity. During the internship the successful candidate will have the opportunity to apply for full employment within the Merck Healthcare division with the additional advantage to know the organization from the inside-out.
Who you are:
Minimum educational requirement is a Master degree (PhD is a plus), either:
- Outstanding academic achievements
- Ideally two interesting consulting or industry-related internships & international experience
- Strong analytical skills, profound knowledge of MS Office
- Fluent in English
