  • Develop an APAC Business development strategy aligned with the overall Merck biopharma and APAC region strategies including priority markets, target companies/assets and partnering approach
  • Act as a key partner to regional leadership to influence and deliver the ovearll APAC strategy
  • Set direction and lead identification of potential Target companies/products in General Medicine, Endocrinology, oncology, Fertility and Neurology
  • Explore new therapeutic areas of interest and new business models to support the regional objectives
  • Align with key stakeholders to evaluate, move forward and complete parterning opportunities
  • Establish and leverage relationships with BD leaders at other pharma companies
  • Negotiate and finalize agreements to introduce new products to the region to increase long-term sales and profit
  • Manage and further improve existing business partnerships including resolving issues, amending terms of existing agreements and further expanding partnerships
  • Lead APAC Business Development team to deliver BD ambition

The incumbent of the position can either be located in China or Singapore.


  • Fluent in English (writing and Speaking)
  • Another language relevant to the region is a Plus
  • Scientific background is nice to have but not mandatory
  • Minimum 7 years of Business development, Licensing or other deal-making Experience in the pharmaceutical industry, investment banking or Private Equity
  • Track record of identifying, Leading and completing high-impact deals
  • Experience working in another area of a pharmceutical company (Sales, Marketing, R&D, Finance, Corporate planning, etc.)
  • Experience working at global Headquarters as well as regional or local/affliate level
  • Experience working in, executing deals or managing complex projects in China and other Asian markets
  • Confidence and ability to influence Senior Leaders
  • Compelling communicator with ability to effect decisions
  • Driven to succeed and make an impact
  • Creative thinker who can find solutions
