The National Commercial Partnership Manager is a senior role which provides significant empowerment and responsibilty as a critical part of a highly innovative and industry leading approach in the provision of healthcare solutions across pharmaceutical, medical device and healthcare services. This role requires a high degree of professionalism where the following skills & capabilites are essential.

  • Identify, engage & build relationships with key decision makers within target Fertility businesses & clinics (clinic owners, clinical directors, head of procurement, chief finance officers, head of nursing)
  • Build an in depth understanding of the private and NHS Fertility clinic market in general and from the specific perspective of private Fertility clinic business
  • Leading the key account working process - working closely with the Regional Business Management team in order to coordinate activities including customers visits, meetings and communications
  • To own and take the lead of the most important strategic private fertility chains
  • Conduct in depth commercial analysis of Fertility businesses in order to diagnose their individual business needs and how they can maximise their commercial success
  • To have gravitas & credibility when working collaboratively with customers
  • To take accountability & responsibility for conducting in depth commercial needs assessment of clinics and the scope & criteria of any future proposition
  • Translate the agreed customer needs, scope & criteria to construct a detailed cross functional brief – including commercial heads, marketing, medical & external providers as required
  • Take accountability & responsibility as project lead with the cross functional team to develop a solution which may include Merck Fertility drug, technology and services which meets the agreed customer needs & criteria
  • To coordinate & deliver a clear, precise and compelling business pitch (as appropriate) to Fertility clinics which demonstrates a clear value proposition meeting the agreed customer needs & criteria
  • Persuade, negotiate and gain commitment to win the business with a high degree of empathy & professionalism
  • Responsible for initiating, constructing, negotiating and completing the contracting process
  • Responsibility & oversight for all contracts including the non-strategic accounts lead by the Key Account Manager team
  • To ensure the delivery of contracts, collect data, evaluate the impact of our value propositions and report this regularly through the business review process
  • This role requires a high degree of networking & collaboration both within and outside the organisation. Within Merck it is essential to collaborate closely with the other business unit staff, especially the Head of Fertility, Fertility Regional Business Managers and Head of Marketing. Working cross-functionally with medical, legal and other departments will also be required to deliver this role.
  • Most importantly of all, working professionally, collaboratively and co-creating with customers is a critical part of this role



  • Sales experience within pharmaceutical, medical device or other healthcare products & solutions
  • People management experience
  • Degree educated
  • Driving licence
  • Field based but able to work from head office as required to deliver their role
  • Willing to travel and spend time away from the home and the office


  • Commercial roles within private healthcare providers or medical insurance companies
  • Roles which involved negotiation and contracting business to business solutions
  • Marketing
  • Roles which required an understanding of the NHS &/or private healthcare marketing in the UK & Ireland
  • Roles involving Business Consulting
  • ABPI/ABHI Trained
