Your role:

Within the Merck End to End Biodevelopment Shanghai Upstream team, you will be primarily responsible for cell line development/cell culture process development/pilot production, including cell culture, frozen, expansion thawing, screening, clone selection and identification, medium and feed screening, process development at bench scale bioreactors and pilot scale up production and study.

1. Major Responsibility

Mammalian Cell Culture/Development

  • Perform all mammalian cell culture experiments related to cell line development/cell culture process development/pilot production (at least one of three) according to the plan & protocol
  • Responsible for specific project if dedicated and make sure the implementation of the project on time
  • Verify and Record all data of experiment performed and involved
  • Effective communication of data/results to managers on time and in time
  • Show logical and scientific thinking and troubleshooting abilities in development activities
  • Draft the experiment design, protocol and report of USP project
  • Prepare and deliver oral presentation as need
  • Any other development activities assigned

Execution of Activities Related to Upstream Development

  • Medium and buffer preparation of USP activities if necessary
  • Preparation, check and review of SOP, BR and Data sheet related to USP activities
  • Responsible for the Sample preparation and submission for analysis
  • Training other team members or colleagues
  • Support all activities needed for the implementation of the experiments and projects

Maintenance and Daily Operation

  • Implementation of the qualification, calibration and maintenance of equipment
  • Responsible for the ordering and receiving of the CAPEX and OPEX dedicated
  • Finish the team and facility related to the activities like checking, cleaning and disinfection
  • Involved in the maintenance of the cell bank and plasmids
  • Any other development activities assigned

Compliance and Good Behavior

  • Make sure all activities are compliant to the policy of the lab, company and regulatory requirements
  • No fraud, modification, delete of any experiment data and information
  • Report discrepancy, deviation, error, issue, OT work and vacation to line manager in time and on time.
  • Show team spirit, proactive and optimistic characters in work


Who you are:


  • Master of Science Degree or above
  • Major in Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Pharmacy or equivalent


  • At least 3 years hands on experience of mammalian cell culture techniques (at least one from cell line development/upstream process development/pilot scale) for MS and at least 1 year for PhD, 5 years for BS
  • Deep understanding of the theoretical and practical knowledge of above areas
  • Academy publication (in English) or patent related is a big plus
  • Master the use of Microsoft office software is necessary
  • Experience of Statistic software is a plus
  • Quality concept is a plus
  • Good track record of former work and academic experience

Language Skill

  • Fluent English reading and writing
  • Fluent English Speaking is a plus
