We are seeking a talented Head of Business Development to join EMD Digital, Inc., an affiliate of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany. As an industry leading science & technology company, we seek to solve the most challenging problems facing scientists today. Our team is working at the intersection of digital and science to develop a portfolio of digital products with the aim of speeding up the scientific process from discovery through commercialization.
Your Role: As part of this digital business venture, you will have the opportunity to work in a face-paced, entrepreneurial environment to help bring our product strategy and vision to life. The ideal candidate is an accomplished professional in the healthcare business development space. You will need to be able to develop and foster business opportunities for the venture as well as implement strategies to drive tangible business growth and development. Demonstration of the following behaviors is important, strong leadership, demonstrated track record of building and growing a business development pipeline, capacity to move between strategic business decisions and their implications, highly analytical and data driven thinking, and translating a strategic vision into action.
Who You Are: You will manage a pipeline of inorganic transactions based upon the strategy and product roadmap developed within EMD Digital, Inc. Negotiate and manage the approval process for all inorganic transactions within EMD Digital: including, co-development agreements, strategic distribution, joint venture, and licensing transactions. Manage our adherence to the terms of these agreements by: tracking key contractual commitments, interfacing with internal teams to demonstrate our compliance with these commitments, communicating with the counterparty to ensure that we are proactively in compliance with all of the agreements we sign. Work with Group M&A to provide business input to all M&A transactions for EMD Digital, Inc. Co-development the inorganic spending budget for EMD Digital, Inc., and draw upon the inorganic transaction pipeline to effectively deploy that budget to meet the growth targets of EMD Digital, Inc. Manage the internal and external communications process, in collaboration with the Corporate Communications teams, for transactions that are executed by EMD Digital, Inc. Be outward facing in the Digital Healthcare, Advanced Materials and Life Sciences space to ensure that the company is at the forefront of these technology investments, and to promote Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany as a digital company. Build a team of Strategy and Corp Dev professionals that will assist in these goals and provide the coaching and management required to make these individuals high-performing talents.
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in science, business or related field
- 12-15 years of professional experience
- A minimum of 5+ years as a pharma/life science leader/executive in Marketing/Sales/Strategy/Operations/Business Development
- Negotiation experience in commercial deals >$1M
- Travel up to 50% (domestically and internationally) is expected
- Experience leading business development activities and growing a pipeline of potential partnerships
Demonstrated success in participating in business development and sales initiatives
