SPECIFIC JOB DESCRIPTION

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Medical Management and Leadership:

- Right-size Local strategies and tactical plans to the affiliate’s business realities

- Manage on-time/on-budget execution of tactical plan

- Manage a broad portfolio of Medical Affairs tactics, across therapeutic areas for assets at various stages of the lifecycle (ie phase 4 studies, med ed, field medical etc)

- Lead efforts resulting in increased operating resourcing efficiencies in the affiliate by leveraging enterprise-wide resources

- Consolidate and share healthcare landscape (payor, patient, access) insights and translate those insights into affiliate strategies

- Lead affiliate Medical Affairs yearly budget and business planning, prioritization and trade-offs

 

Talent Management and People Development:

- Lead talent review process and demonstrate follow through on Development Plans for Key Talent

- Develop or improve area and or affiliate on-boarding and training

- Create action plan to ensure healthy succession pools for leadership position

- Manage talent across variety of cultures, languages and backgrounds

- Manage employees  with a variety of performance records and capabalities

- Serve as a role model and mentor not just within the function

 

Regulatory & Compliance Management:

- Successfully collaborate and lead resolution of regulatory, reputational, compliance and other risk issues in the affiliate

- Contribute to affiliate labeling discussions

- Lead the problem solving process for significant safety or quality issues at affiliate

- Deliver on post-marketing commitments on time and with quality

- Manage ethical issues at affiliate to resolutions that satisfy business and societal needs

- Participate in and contribute  significantly to internal policy and external trade or regulatory working teams on matters that impact the affiliate

 

Scientific and Technical Leadership:

- Meaningfully contribute to strategic and tactical discussions in cross-functional leadership teams

- Actively inform and contribute to GMA/RMA and local strategy and tactics in collaboration with Global/Regional TA’s, GME and General manager

- Collaborate with pharmacovigilance and regulatory in interpreting regulatory and safety risks in their geography

- Manage effective scientific communication throughout their geography

- Provide counsel on clinical and health outcomes research design and ensure that the regional research proposals are scientifically and strategically aligned to global data generation priorities (Country Council)

- Collaborate with Global/Regional TAs and RCO/GCO to ensure research activities are completed and published on time and on budget

 

 

Time allocation

 

  • 20-40%  field : 1] Interaction and discussions with external stake holders ( KTLs/ Payers / Health authority, etc)
  • 60-80% office : 1] Crossfunctional responsibilities; 2] Governance & medical compliance; 3] Functional management of MSLM;  4] Self training

 

STRATEGIC IMPACT

 

  • Establish and maintain the scientific image and reputation of Our Company externally  and being a key binding function between science and business internally
  • Focus on implementation of medical strategies, i.e. realization of the value-creating contribution of medical affairs supporting the profiling and positioning of our products
  • Communicate trends and innovations identified in the market facing organisations, e.g. in their interactions with Key Thought Leaders, to Regional Medical Director , local commercial and general manager
  • Ensure continuous improvement of all country related processes

 

SCOPE OF PEOPLE RESPONSIBILITY

Management of people

  • Build, lead and manage a team of  Medical affairs professionals
  • Set objectives and manage and evaluate performance of  direct reports
  • Ensure appropriate sourcing aligned to the value creating opportunities / potential of the markets
  • Set up development plans for direct reports

 

COOPERATION

Internal :

  • Partner with product leaders and commercial team in translating strategies into medical affairs plans for execution and country General Manager
  • Other departments with frequent interactions:   Global Clinical Operations, regional medical affairs, global medical affairs, global medical information, Regulatory Affairs,  Market access & Communications

External:

  • Interact (participate in discussions, give presentations, participate in contract negotiation) with Key Thought Leaders, investigators and customer / patient organizations, health authorities, medical societies and other scientific bodies

 

CANDIDATE’S PROFILE

 

EDUCATION

Required professional experience and necessary training

  • Medical doctor with a post graduate qualification preferred ( Physician, Specialist in Internal Medicine, Oncology or Neurology preferred)
  • Experience in managing teams  
  • Training in regional / local and international regulations including Good Clinical Practice

 

WORK EXPERIENCE

 

  • More than 8-10 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry (Clinical Development / Medical Affairs / Commercial Operations)
  • Prior industry experience as Medical Manager / medical director
  • Knowledge and experience in project management
