Your Role:

MilliporeSigma is seeking a scientist for our Virology and Microbiological Sciences Team. The position is based at our Bedford, MA facility and reports to the BioProcessing Research and Development group. As an integral part of the R&D group you will work cross functionally with different groups throughout MilliporeSigma to plan, coordinate, execute and report on studies to support new and existing products that contribute to biosafety in bioprocessing operations. This is a hands-on laboratory position that requires attention to detail, excellent communication skills and an ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, matrixed environment. You should have an interest in broadening your knowledge and understanding of biosafety in bioprocessing operations to help advance new product development and optimize performance of current products for MilliporeSigma customers. 


This position will be responsible for the following: perform microbiological titer assays using different methods; prepare and characterize stocks of bacterial strains; design and execute filtration tests to characterize and assess microbial retention characteristics of membranes; design and execute microbial inactivation studies to assess sanitant/preservative efficacy and novel microbial inactivation technologies; execute bacterial challenge studies for development of single-use technologies; contribute to method development and validation; independent preparation of test method protocols and reports.

Who You Are:
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, biology, biochemistry or related science with 2+ years laboratory experience


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Skilled in aseptic technique and virus, bacteria, mycoplasma enumeration and assay methods
  • Ability to work with biological materials under BSL-2 biosafety laboratory practices
  • Experience with Microsoft applications including data manipulation in Excel
  • Experience in performing quantitative data analysis
  • Team player, ability to work in varied, fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational and excellent communication skills
  • Experience in challenge testing with virus, bacteria or mycoplasma would be a plus
  • Experience in bioburden analysis and excursion investigations is a plus
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
