Your Role:

Entry level position requiring health surveillance, treatments, maintenance, production activities and feeding animals in an agricultural setting including goats, sheep, guinea pigs and mice. Cleaning and maintaining animal housing and production areas to maintain compliance with Corporate Animal Science and Welfare, USDA , ISO and cGMP standards and policies under close supervision. This role will handle and restrain animals safely and humanely. Minimize pain and discomfort to animals under care. Ensure that animals are cared for and housed in accordance with standard operating procedures, USDA and local, state and federal regulations.

 

This position provides routine and technical care for animals as assigned, including food, water and husbandry care. The technician will perform assigned production activities per standard operating procedures, observe animals daily to assess health, environmental conditions and social environment. The technician will ensure sick animals receive timely and appropriate attention from veterinary and animal care staff. This role observes and recognizes symptoms of illness or abnormalities in animals and provide veterinary approved treatments when appropriate. The technician will monitor animals for impact of antibody production protocols and program of care and advise supervisor and attending vet of negative impacts.

 

The technician will maintain cleanliness and organization of indoor and outdoor animal housing facilities, equipment, and feed storage facilities; complete routine cleaning of animal housing facilities according to established processes, procedures and standards. Maintains legible and accurate animal care records and individual animal identification within prescribed manual and database systems. Performs work in accordance with EHS requirements and report hazardous conditions and/or equipment failures following established procedures. Maintains working areas and sanitizes equipment using established procedures, cleaning equipment and supplies. Ensure all work complies with established standards. The technician preforms emergency maintenance as needed repair to feeding, watering devices and housing to ensure animal safety.

 

Physical Attributes:

Lifting, pushing and pulling up to one-hundred (100) pounds on a regular basis

 

Who You Are:

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of experience related to livestock animals or in a similar work setting is preferred.
  • Certificate of completion as a Laboratory Animal Technician is preferred.
  • Ability to frequently and humanely handle animals for the purpose of production, care, and/or treatment
  • Experience handling goats, sheep or small laboratory animals
  • Demonstrate ability to work in a professional manner with co-workers, supervisors, and management
  • Demonstrate ability to follow established processes and procedures
  • Demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy
  • Skill to utilize the following machines and tools: ◦Utility vehicles (RTV), tractors
  • Ability to adapt to and thrive in rapidly changing business circumstance and a constantly changing business environment
  • The ability to work outdoors in highly variable temperatures (hot or cold) for extended periods of time during normal working hours as required, weekends and/or holidays
