We are a Global Oncology Innovator with a rich and rapidly developing pipeline with registrational intent and phase I/II programs across multiple novel compounds, which may yield robust data in high unmet need patient populations.

In February 2019 Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany and GSK established a 50:50 Alliance to develop and commercialize Bintrafusp Alfa, a novel first in class fusion protein immunotherapy with the aim of getting more patients closer to cure beyond recent innovations in Immuno-Oncology in the last decade.  The initial indication sequence is a global registrational program to improve patient outcomes and address unmet needs in Metastatic Biliary Tract, Cervical and Non-Small Cell Lung Cancers. The development program and Alliance contract also plans to expand the patient impact of Bintrafusp alfa into multiple other tumor types, as a monotherapy and with the potential to explore, develop and commercialize combinations across both company’s pipelines.

 

Your Role:

The Bintrafusp Alfa Global MAP Strategy and Alliance Lead will be primarily responsible for developing, refining and guiding implementation of the Global Lifecycle Market Access and Pricing strategy in partnership with GSK. You will be a key member of the alliance Joint Commercialization Committee (JCC) responsible for shaping global strategy, plans and deliverables to successfully launch and optimize a multi-tumor lifecycle program in conjunction with the Joint Development Committee (JDC) and the Alliance Steering Committee (ASC) which is the key decision making committee.

 

You will continue to lead and deliver the launch Global Market Access & Pricing Strategy and MAP Alliance Process Plan, in close collaboration and alignment with Commercial, HEOR, Government Policy and Affairs in particular, as well as other key functions such as Medical, Communications and Competitive Intelligence.  

 

You will also be responsible for making sure the payer perspective is integrated into optimizing the strategy for further waves of indications, leveraging existing and future Proof of Concepts in monotherapy and

combination with other molecules both within and external to our organization. This will be a critical input into optimizing not just Bintrafusp alfa but also our Oncology Pipeline given the complexity of optimizing the synergistic value of multi-asset/company combinations, in close collaboration with counterparts in the Global Oncology MAP and Franchise teams.

 

These strategies need to be developed and aligned both internally within our company, but also in collaboration with GSK. As the program expands it is anticipated in 2020 you will have a direct report to support you in delivering your duties.

 

Key Accountabilities

 

1) Development and rollout of the Global MAP Strategy for launch and product lifecycle

  1. Formulate early-thinking of Global MAP strategy with the appropriate level of rigor and research
  2. Determine optimal payer positioning in alignment with brand positioning and target value proposition. Integrate into Target Product Value Proposition prior to registrational data readouts
  3. Ensure the capture of payer insights via primary and secondary methods; integrate into Global MAP strategy development
    1. Develop and implement the Global MAP strategy and tactics
    2. Assess the impact of competitors / competitive events on pricing and reimbursement potential

 

2) Integration of the payer perspective into Commercial strategy and Development Plan

  1. Represent Global MAP on the Global Brand/Launch Team, JCC and relevant R&D Product Teams – use these fora to proactively shape Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany/Alliance strategies to succeed
  2. Communicate implications of payer requirements to the Global Brand/Launch Team
  3. Integrate and build alignment around the Global MAP strategy into the marketing strategy

 

3)  Set/refine the Global Pricing Policy – Guidance and Governance

  1. Establishment of pricing guidance and define administration of the pricing governance process within our organization and across Pfizer Alliance
  2. Supervision of analytics and planning team members in their assessment of price requests and country business cases
  3. Ensuring pricing inputs / assumptions to the forecasting and strategic planning process are provided in a timely fashion

 

4) Development and delivery of core Global MAP deliverables to Key Country/Regional organizations

  1. Provide training to build product & therapeutic area knowledge, thorough understanding of Global MAP strategies and tactics
  2. Ensure that Global MAP strategies are cascaded to Country / Regional organizations with an actionable implementation plan
  3. Develop and rollout the MAP Toolkit including the MAP strategy, payer value proposition and value communication tools, contracting models and other resources for demonstrating compound value
  4. Support Regional MAP to tailor the Global MAP strategy
  5. Provide direct support to “priority markets” in achieving reimbursement

 

5) Support and enhance the development of clinical, economic, and humanistic evidence to optimize pricing and reimbursement

  1. Assess payer evidence requirements for pipeline and inline compounds to determine potential evidence gaps
  2. Establish Global MAP alignment with HEOR and other evidence generation functions on the mitigation plan for addressing evidence gaps
  3. Provide input to the GPT / R&D teams on clinical trial protocols to optimize pricing and reimbursement potential

 

6) Contributions to Global MAP leadership to ensure effective integration with key business partners

  1. Provide updates as applicable to the Global MAP senior leadership team
  2. Establish excellent collaboration and leadership with GPT, Medical Affairs, Franchise, HEOR and Government Affairs peers, and with Regional Market Access Heads

 

Who You Are:

  • Bachelors in science, pharmacy, medicine, statistics, accounting, economics, business or public health
  • 7-10 years of experience in either pharmaceutical market access or pricing, and/or related experience in Commercial/ HEOR capacity
  • Experience in developing and implementing Global market access and pricing strategy and integrating into Development & Commercial Strategy and plans – both launch and pipeline brand experience in Oncology/Immuno-Oncology preferred
  • Fluent in English
  • Ability to lead and influence in a matrix environment, people management experience preferable
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate and influence effectively with peers and leadership; having a persuasive and credible presentation style at all levels of organization
  • Strong process/project management skills and business acumen
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to draw insights/derive viable strategic options from the analytical research
  • Good understanding of major market reimbursement systems, current health policy topics and working knowledge of health economics
