Your Role:  The US Country and St. Louis Hub Communicator, Life Science is a single contributor role that reports into the Head of Americas Communications for Life Science. In this role, the US Country and St. Louis Hub Communicator, Life Science will represent Life Science in the USA and at the St. Louis, MO hub from a communications standpoint and will also support Corporate North America communication activities in partnership with all North America communicators. 

In this role main responsibilities may include but not be limited to:

 

Internal Communications

  • Generate news content for internal audiences to drive employee understanding of the business, strategy and engagement
  • Support production and execution of local employee engagement programs & events - i.e. town hall, coffee hours, leadership visits, lunch and learns
  • Lead internal communications activities for St. Louis hub
  • Drive editorial development of relevant US content (corporate and business) to feed internal communications channels

External Communications

  • Support Head of Americas LS communications with execution of external communications activities (in particular in the St. Louis area) in close collaboration with LS external comms team
  • Prepare local press release in partnership with external communications
  • Support issue/crisis communications activities in North America and act as local St. Louis crisis communication point of contact
  • Leverage Merck corporate responsibility projects locally
  • Lead external communications activities for the St. Louis Life Science hub

Business Communication support

  • Provide communications support to Head of St. Louis site
  • Assist Head of Americas Communications with execution of communication tactics for Heads of Research, Applied and Process Solutions regional Sales in Americas (newsletters, content development, etc.)

North America Corporate Communications

  • Support execution of US country council communications plan and tactics
  • Lead production of events in St. Louis area (family/GL visits, officials visits, etc.)
  • Support with ad-hoc internal US-wide communication tactics on specific US matters or programs (benefits, science network, ERGs)

 

Who You Are:

 Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Public Relations, Journalism, International Relations, Literature, Business Administration or related field or a scientific background with solid communications experience
  • 7+ years progressive experience in communication functions
  • Rounded communicator with strong business partnering and execution abilities
  • Experience in working with Senior Executives
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Excellent oral and written English
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to interact with people in different level positions
  • Proactive, creative, results and teamwork orientated
  • Resilient and able to work under pressure
  • Strong personal judgement and behavioral flexibility
  • Ability to operate in a matrix and have influence

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Life Science or Pharma businesses is a plus
  • A second language is a plus
  • International experience is a plus
