A career at our company is an ongoing journey of discovery: our around 56,000 people are shaping how the world lives, works and plays through next generation advancements in healthcare, life science and performance materials. For more than 350 years and across the world we have passionately pursued our curiosity to find novel and vibrant ways of enhancing the lives of others.

Your role
As a leading science and technology company, one of our primary focus areas is harnessing the power of our data intelligence and analytics to best serve our customers.  To secure our competitive advantage in this critical area, a Center of Excellence (CoE) is being setup within Life Science to drive our data analytics strategy and execution. The key focus areas for this team will be overseeing the structural integrity of Life Science Data Lake, establishing a data analytics strategy and driving creating a cultural mindset shift across Life Science.  The Analytics CoE will collaborate with IT, CDO and other teams across our company to enable and drive our Life Science analytics strategic priorities. In your role as Lead Analytics Engineer you will be part of the Use Case team who is delivering high value use cases to our business stakeholders. We like to see you as the thought leader in the field of data analytics who very strongly cares for business outcomes. You enjoy empowering others on the platform, but not necessarily do the work minute by minute for the team. In addition, you are embracing uncertainty and leading in complex environments by providing superb data analytics judgement and exploring viable data analytics options. Also, we are not looking for a pureplay software engineer nor a pureplay PMO type person either – you are a doer. You will be advising the business on the potential use of data, to provide new insights into the business's mission, and through the use of advanced statistical analysis, data mining, and data visualization techniques, to create solutions that enable enhanced business performance. You can articulate, evolve and defend the data analytics standards of how data analytics is to be applied and ensures standards are applied across the platform ecosystem. You will be greenlighting new projects and ensure high quality work by reviewing applications on demand. Technology exploration is part of your profile to innovate and meet business needs. You will drive the practice across the entire use case portfolio from basic to very advanced cases.
You will further work on use cases of increased complexity beyond the team’s current capabilities. This includes experimenting with new technology, models and techniques and thereby acting as role model for the rest of the team.

Who you are:

  • BS degree with 5+ years’ experience, MS degree with 2+ years’ experience, or PhD
  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative or technical field (math, statistics, computer science, data engineering) Master’s degree preferred.
  • Thought leadership in the data analytics and architecture domain you are able to succinctly and clearly project to other parts of the organization from practitioners to executive leadership.
  • Proficiency in developing and applying advanced data analysis models and algorithms in Python (incl PySpark), R, Java, or SQL
  • Proficiency in Big Data Processing Frameworks, Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases
