Your Role:

The SVP, Global Head of the Translational Innovation Platform (TIP) in Immuno-Oncology (I/O) will direct and lead global I/O research, translational activities and ensures efficient coordination with internal and external partners.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Propose and drive I/O reseach strategy of discovery-stage projects in I/O and make recommendations for project start/stops at the Discovery Research Committee
  • Lead and engage the I/O research team located in Billerica, Darmstadt, and Tel Aviv
  • Optimize the resource allocation and set priorities for the portfolio of I/O discovery projects
  • Build and maintain world class disease biology, pharmacology and translational research within I/O and increase connectivity into neighbour therapeutic areas
  • Build and maintain strong Pre-Clinical Biomarker group
  • Ensure delivery of highly differentiated and high quality development candidates (jointly with neighbour R&D functions)
  • Manage new therapeutic concepts, set strategy for target discovery
  • Build and foucus disease specific biology, including technologies supporting target research, disease specific pharmacology and discovery stage biomarker development
  • Contribute to compound profiling and enable seamless transition into lead optimization, early clinical development, and transition into late stage clinical development
  • Manage, coordinate and supervise preclinical disease pharmacology work for development projects including identification of biomarker end points, rational combinations, and contribution to indication-based proof-of-concept strategy and to life cycle activities of mature products (jointly with Translational Medicine function)
  • Member of the Discovery Research Committee, the Drug Development Committee and the Oncology Franchise Leadership Team
  • Build high-quality I/O advisory board and network of collaborators to consult on matters of project portfolio and individual projects at research and development level
  • Develop I/O reserch strategy and contribute to the development of early development strategy
  • Drive academic and discovery collaborations being the Chair of Joint Steering Committees
  • Maintain strong liaison to Development and Commercial Unit in Oncology, including fostering of network with global thought leaders in the field
  • Present the scientific rational and pre-clinical data of immune-oncology development projects to potential co-development partner
  • Maintain strong liaison to Research strategy group and External Innovation for all I/O reserch aspects and guide the scouting for external opportunities that fit portfolio vision
  • Contribute to the Darmstadt and Boston Research hub external networks
  • Develop and sustain collaborative relationships internally and externally and work through a shared services organisation within R&D
  • Proactively seek external opportunities for new discovery technologies and leading edge research
  • Drive the team towards continuous improvement in cycle time, PoS and cost per phase
  • Manage and develop people through effective use of people management practices such as performance management, compensation, training, development, talent management
  • Ensure the training and development of the required level of functional skills in research, translational medicine to support the transformational change
  • Attract, retain and develop scientific talents
  • Effective financial management


Who You Are:


  • PhD or MD/PhD, with a preference for a concentration in I/O
  • 15+ years of post-doctoral experience, with 10+ years in industry
  • 5+ years driving discovery projects within I/O
  • Excellent publication records and speaker invitations to major international conferences
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with internal and external stakeholders
  • Proven leadership track record with the capability to influence in a matrixed organization
  • Fluency in English, written and oral
  • Ability to travel internationally and domestically as needed
