Job Summary:

A key and highly visible contributor responsible for managing ERP purchasing modules throughout the region along with special global projects (Global Mergers, Acquisitions, Divestitures, Integration and Transformation activity); optimizing processes; collaborating with other Merck Group Functions/internal EMD departments/suppliers. This role requires a high degree of ERP system to knowledge for system integrations. The range of leadership in these integrations will include global harmonization and collaboration; delegation of task training within the broader purchasing team and stabilization of existing systems as various stages of ERP changes are occurring through implementations.

 

In total, this includes all EMD Serono, MilliporeSigma and EMD Performance Materials locations for ongoing system maintenance and enhancements along with global special projects (Global M/A/D/I/T) as described above. Additionally, support to other MBS locations globally is included in this role.

 

A change agent to deliver optimal value and assistance to EMD business partners through technical ERP enhancements. Continuing to maintain the reengineering and optimization the P2P process Post-ERP Implementation. Maintaining strong relationships with the Global MBS BP Processes and Governance; Merck Group Function Information Technology and other Central Functions on ERP systems and ensure regional purchasing processes are included in these initiatives.

 

This position requires a strong ERP procurement professional with a background to improve procurement (both strategic and tactical) processes and system excellence, with a detailed knowledge of SAP (Oracle, AS400 and other ERP systems are a plus).

 

Job Responsibilities:

Purchasing Operations

 

This position provides ERP technical support to the major work streams within the Procurement department including ERP best practices implementation. A high degree of international collaboration and influence is required for gaining local ERP system improvements and supporting multiple Global ERP initiatives. 

 

On a regular basis, this position ensures the department is providing expert-level assistance to multiple areas, as needed. This person must be able to build solid relationships with local IT, Finance, Legal, Research and Development, and Compliance as well as corporate colleagues to deliver maximum process efficiency.

 

The position is based in the Montevideo, Uruguay with upwards of 30% travel depending on special projects.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY AREA:

  • Technically support ERP systems in the Americas Purchasing region.

FUNCTIONAL KNOWLEDGE:

  • Ability to support EMD administrative procurement processes that are consistent with the compliance environment and the ERP and Oracle template.
  • Strong process and ERP system background to ensure ability to implement best practices and technologies in full Procurement cycle.

BUSINESS EXPERTISE:

  • Remain current on ERP system and process developments to be able to recommend new and cutting-edge processes.

PROBLEM SOLVING:

  • Support decision-making of optimum ERP solution for complex issues.
  • Able to influence; develop; and train end-users for procurement systems.

NATURE AND AREA OF IMPACT:

  • Deliver value to the organization with driving process efficiency in the procurement department. Ensure alignment with IT, Finance, Legal and Compliance.
  • Drive successful P2P and System Process Improvement projects.

  • Strong communication skills to motivate and drive cultural change. 
  • Ability to influence change within a team environment.
  • Requires self-confidence and excellent communication skills (written and verbal).

 SPECIAL REPORTS:

  • Assist in the continuous improvement activities of re-engineering of the P2P process with Legal and Finance Departments, including future ERP Cchanges; training; and testing.
  • Usage of Corporate Procurement Performance Management system for various spend analysis and data crunching.
  • Continued expansion and implementation of eProcurement (B2B catalogs and others) solutions
  • ERP project support, as needed (Tempo, Versum S/4, Oracle, Quattro, SAP Next, SAP Lean)
  • Other special projects to be defined.

 LANGUAGES

  • Fluent in English (written and spoken).

  • Expert-level experience with ERP Solutions will be taught, this will be integrated other applications (Excel Macros, Python, etc.) in a creative and problem-solving manner.

  • Ability to solve problems and make/influence decisions in a proactive manner.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree complete or in progress preferred (Computer Science, Engineering or Business Operations preferably with an MIS focus)
  • ERP experience (SAP Hana, Ariba, SRM; MM; FI; WM experience is a plus)

Additional Technical Requirements 

 

Expertise in report writing tools, ERP systems including Business Warehouse Reporting.

Proficiency with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
