The most recent F✱✱✱ Up Night event featured Jasper Bos, Senior Vice President & Managing Director M Ventures and, for the first time, a panel session featuring executives from two major companies, BASF and Fraport AG. The session proved to be educational, surprising and, above all, inspirational!
June 6th saw the latest edition of our F✳✳✳ Up Night take place at our Innovation Center in Darmstadt, with 350 innovators attending this cross-company and cross-industry collaborative event. Sponsored by our Chief Strategy Officer, Isabel de Paoli, the 6th event in the series focused on how our culture is evolving to be more accepting of competent failure. In fact, we are embracing it in order to progress towards corporate objectives, as long as the lessons are shared and used to improve the way we work in the future.
For the first time, the event also featured a panel session with executives from two large multinational corporations in BASF and Fraport AG, who were open enough to share experiences of failure within their organizations that have ultimately contributed to long-term success.
One of the highlights was undoubtedly the insightful and surprising keynote from Jasper Bos, Senior Vice President & Managing Director M Ventures, on the topic "Fail to succeed". He made it clear how important it is to start taking chances and open the door to developing a more innovative mindset, without being afraid of failing. Indeed, he stressed that innovators have to constantly admit they are wrong in order to adjust their course, or even completely change direction, if that is the best thing to do for the success of the venture.
The panel discussion, moderated by Kristina Muth, Head of the Innovator Academy, enhanced the event with a broad range of examples and insights from Carla Seidel from BASF, Anastasios Jakopanec from our company, Felix Kreutel from Fraport AG and Jasper Bos from M Ventures.
One thing that all the panelists agreed on was the need to accept failure as an essential learning experience, which can only be maximized by examining and extracting the insight from it and resisting the urge to turn away from or forget about it. An interactive workshop also gave attendees the chance to form a cross-company Working Out Loud circle with colleagues from BASF and Fraport.
The evening ended with the usual networking session that featured the “Bright Side of Failure” experience, with three challenges around storytelling, dealing with uncertainty and immortalizing collaboration moments at the F✳✳✳ Up Photo Booth.
