With over 10 years’ experience in consulting for startup businesses, Felix Thönnessen knows his stuff when it comes to recognizing a potential startup star. His presentation Innovators’ Club presentation featured a myriad of diverse startup successes, all of which could trace their achievements back to leveraging the right tools to help them think creatively. Attendees were able to experience this themselves during a short game that allowed them to feel what it’s like to innovate by ‘thinking outside the box’.
Felix explained that innovation is about taking an existing business, problem or way of doing things, and turning it completely on its head. As an example, he cited a company that rents toys to families based on a monthly subscription model. This solves a problem that many families face when they spend a small fortune on the latest gadget, only for the child to stop using it within weeks.
Interestingly, Felix also revealed that despite the success of shows like “Höhle der Löwen”, Germany’s 3% rate of entrepreneurship is just a third of that in the USA. So, it seems there is still a lot of opportunity for startup growth over here for those of us with an idea, and the work ethic, creative thinking and marketing expertise to make it stand out in an increasingly crowded marketplace.
