At the beginning of June, our Head of Accelerator Africa, Karina Faßbender, who is responsible for the Accelerator program in Nairobi, accompanied ten startups with their pitches at the Seedstars competition in Cape Town, South Africa. After a long day of keynotes and pitch training, three startups have been selected to move forward in the competition. The winning teams from mbora, GreenFingers Mobile and EMGuidance, all startups from South Africa, can now look forward to the next stages of the competition.
Seedstars runs a global startup competition focussing on emerging markets with the goal of promoting and investing in entrepreneurship and technology. There are three different stages for startups to go through before a worldwide winner is announced. First, startups have to pitch at a local level at Seedstars’ local competitions – such as the event in Cape Town on June 8. The winners of that competition get the chance to participate at the Regional Seedstars Summits. At each stage, the startup teams get to pitch their disruptive tech ideas to a jury. All of the winners from the Regional Summits then get invited for the grand finale: the Seedstars Summit in Switzerland. At the end of the Seedstars Summit, one team is crowned the Seedstars World Global Winner.
mbora developed a solar-powered, IoT-enabled sensing suite that delivers real-time visibility to a service provider across its entire network, in order to enable service providers in emerging markets to track the performance of their Agent networks. Find out more about them on their website.
