Helene von Roeder

Member of the Executive Board | Chief Financial Officer

Helene von Roeder is a member of the Executive Board and Chief Financial Officer of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, since July 1, 2023. In addition, she is responsible for the Information Technology, our Business Services and Procurement functions.

Before joining our company, Helene served on the Executive Board of Vonovia SE since May 2018, first as the Chief Financial Officer until 2021, and then as the Chief Transformation Officer responsible for, amongst others, IT, Procurement and Innovation. Prior to that, she spent 23 years working in London, UK, and Frankfurt, Germany, at various investment banks. She started her career in 1995 at Deutsche Bank in London before moving to UBS AG in Frankfurt and London. This was followed by a stint in Morgen Stanley, where she was the Head of Global Capital Markets for Germany and Austria before becoming the Chief Executive Officer of Credit Suisse, Germany, Austria and Central and Eastern Europe (CEE).

Until recently, Helene was also a Member of the Supervisory Board of our company and Board of Partners of E. Merck KG, Darmstadt, Germany since 2019, serving as Chair of the Audit and Finance committees, respectively. She has now resigned from these positions as a result of her appointment to the Executive Board at Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany.

Helene was born in 1970 in Heidelberg, Germany. She has studied theoretical physics at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Germany, and has a master’s degree of Philosophy in theoretical astrophysics from the University of Cambridge, UK. She is married and has three children.
