Strategic Corporate Venture Capital
M Ventures is the strategic corporate venture capital fund of Merck, with a dual remit of strategic and financial returns. In 2021, we increased the funds available for investment by an additional Eur 600M to enable more and larger investments across our two investment areas of Biotechnology and Technology.
We help, initiate, drive innovation by supporting entrepreneurs through hands-on support and equity investments in fields that could impact Merck’s mid to long-term business interests.

Calling all industry disruptors, dreamers and innovators
We help, initiate, drive innovation by supporting entrepreneurs through hands-on support and equity investments in fields that could impact Merck’s mid to long-term business interests. Between our Netherlands headquarters and offices in Germany, Israel and USA, M Ventures invests across four fields: Healthcare + Life Sciences, Electronics + Frontier Technologies and Sustainability led by our experienced Biotech and Technology investment teams respectively.
Each M Ventures team facilitates their own field’s seed-stage company creation, early-stage syndicated investments, and Merck spin-off creation and funding in close alignment with sector strategies. M Ventures also participates in innovation focused internal Merck activities and business development teams bringing in external insights into their decision making.M Ventures is formally separated from the Merck businesses by an information Firewall Wall that enables M Ventures to invest with a dual outlook on financial and strategic returns, and to ensure neither Merck nor M Ventures’ investee companies are at risk of information contamination.
From innovation to success
We take an active role in our portfolio companies and team them up with entrepreneurs and co-investors to help them translate innovation into commercial success. Where necessary, team members will take on operational roles, such as interim CEO, Chairperson of the board, CBO or CFO, until the new company is ready to be self-sufficient. M Ventures offers the benefits of an active and experienced early-stage investor together with access to the research, development and commercial resources of a leading science and technology company.
