Striving Toward Sustainability and the First Steps Along the Path to Net Zero

    13 Nov 2024 - FROM 9:40 TO 9:55 UTC-06:00

Abstract

In the quest for a sustainable future, every initiative must be rooted in strategies that create tangible value. Beyond direct emissions from our operations (Scope 1), there are additional categories of emissions that pose some of the most impactful and complex challenges on the journey to net zero. Scope 2 includes indirect emissions from purchased energy, Scope 3 encompasses all other indirect emissions in our value chain, and Scope 4 involves emissions reductions achieved through our products and services. These categories offer substantial economic benefits but require close collaboration with suppliers and customers to streamline requirements, enhance goods flow, and secure accurate, timely data.

At EMD Electronics, our recent efforts have focused on increasing our capacity to recycle plastics and metals, improving water-use efficiency and conservation, and reducing energy consumption. By driving atomic-level innovation through Materials Intelligence™, we are also developing future pathways to lower carbon intensity through innovation, such as enhancing product designs and adopting advanced technologies to generate power and minimize or eliminate significant waste streams.

To ensure that our sustainability goals align with economic practices, we emphasize collaboration across the entire value chain. Addressing complex environmental challenges requires transparent dialogue, data exchange, and collaborative partnerships. How can we transform these collaborations into industry-wide standards? What innovative approaches will drive us toward a more sustainable future? Join this session to discover actionable strategies, explore pioneering solutions, and contribute to setting new benchmarks for a greener tomorrow.
