John Briggs
John Briggs’ group studies the structure and the molecular assembly mechanisms of enveloped viruses such as influenza A virus, HIV-1 and SARS-CoV-2, and of cellular trafficking vesicles including clathrin and COPI coated vesicles. They also develop and apply new approaches for “in situ” structural biology using cryo-electron tomography and image processing. John Briggs has a doctorate in Structural Biology from University of Oxford, UK. He started his research group at EMBL, Heidelberg in 2006, was programme leader at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge from 2017 - 2021 and is currently director of the department of cell and virus structure at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry, Martinsried.
