Precision medicine is patient-centric

We believe in providing the right dose of the right drug to the right patient. We recognize that every patient is unique requires a specific treatment, which is why we strive for a customized treatment approach. When we think of developing treatments options, we are thinking of the individual and their unique condition, not just the origin of the disease.

Supporting each other to support others
I realized around the age of 12 that I wanted to become a scientist. The first year we did physics, chemistry and biology experiments in school, I would get very excited and curious. I guess you could say it really started when I got my own chemistry set for Christmas and did experiments in the basement of our house.

After a number of years in academic research, I was looking for jobs that better adhered to my interest of the interface between basic science and medicine. I got an offer from Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany and immediately said yes. It was a job in oncology, which was already very exciting, but also the curiosity, diversity and culture at Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany really appealed to me.

When not in the office, not traveling and not working from home, I am spending most of the free time with my wife and my two kids. If I still have time, I like to listen to electronic music and take my mountain or road bike out for a ride.

Finding purpose in everything you do

My passion is driven by the chance to discover something new that can potentially improve a patient’s life. I’m also motivated by the opportunity to see how an idea that I had in the lab, read about in a scientific publication or heard about at a conference can suddenly create excitement in the entire organization. That one idea can lead to an entire team working on the discovery and development of a drug and seeing a product come to life that potentially offers a new option and hope to patients. Here you have the opportunity to be part of this entire journey, and it is what I love most about my career.

Discovering the right fit for your ambitions
I have wanted to study pharmacy for as long as I can remember. When it became time to enter a graduate program, it was no question as to whether or not I would pursue research opportunities that were an extension of my interest in mathematics and pharmacology. I eventually received my doctorate degree and thus my career in the pharmaceutical industry had begun.

Before joining the team here at Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, I had already recognized it as a great science and technology company. I felt drawn to the science-based culture with emphasis on data-driven decision making, and ultimately decided to embrace my new healthcare family. I am excited to have the opportunity to help advance Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany’s innovative pipeline.

I love coming into work everyday, because I get to be a part of the movement advancing forward from the one-drug-fits-all approach.

When not in the office, I very much enjoy spending time with my family and friends. Living abroad for several years offered my family and I the chance to travel across Europe and enjoy local cuisines and culture.
