Dr. Shari Spector
Metabolomics is a strategic focus area for Shari in her role as Head of Innovation for the Biochemicals business of Merck. Through internal efforts and external collaborations, she ensures that Biochemicals offers an ever-expanding portfolio of products that enable standardization in metabolomics. Shari studied biochemistry and biophysics, earning a Bachelor’s from Douglass College, Rutgers University and a Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
How do oxidized lipids and lipid-like environmental toxins such as pesticides and antibiotics in food affect our brain? As an associate professor in the Department of Food Science and Technology at the University of California, Davis, Ameer is investigating this question using methods based on mass spectrometry. Ameer holds a master's degree in nutritional science and a doctorate in pharmacology and toxicology, both from the University of Toronto.
