We are Unique
Across Life Science, Healthcare, and Electronics, we work at the crossroads of health, digitalization, and sustainability, with artificial intelligence at the center of all three.
Sparking Discovery, Elevating Humanity
As a leading global science and technology company, we spark discovery to elevate humanity. This is how we thrived for more than 350 years. Today, our businesses in Life Science, Healthcare and Electronics operate at the crossroads of the world's most critical megatrends – health, digitalization, and sustainability. And at the center of all three is artificial intelligence: changing the speed of discovery, reshaping how therapies reach patients, and powering the technologies the modern world depends on.
We are more than 62,000 people working across the company every day to turn scientific possibility into real-world impact. There is nothing small in what we do.
As a vibrant science and technology leader with deep expertise in biology, chemistry, physics, and AI, we create real‑world products and solutions that millions of patients and customers worldwide depend on.

Our long legacy fuels our passion for shaping tomorrow.
Three businesses. One shared purpose.
We operate across three future-driven businesses, powered by breakthrough science and connected by a single ambition: to be a partner at every step of the journey from lab to customer and patient.
Our Life Science business
We are a leading provider of products, solutions and services for a wide range of customers – from research labs to full-scale industrial manufacturing. Our purpose is to impact life and health with science. We work across the full workflow of discovery and production, helping customers move more seamlessly from early research to scale-up, and reducing the friction between scientific possibility and real-world delivery.
Focus Areas
- Factories and labs of the future: Automate and digitize labs and manufacturing.
- Novel modalities: Enable next-generation therapies such as antibody-drug conjugates and gene therapies.
- Next-generation biology: Develop better biological models and methods.
- AI and digital: Use AI and data to speed up discovery and development.
- Sustainability: Embed sustainability from early product design onward.
Our Healthcare Business
Our Healthcare business helps to create, improve and prolong lives. We design and develop medicines and intelligent devices across oncology, rare diseases, neurology and immunology, fertility, and cardiovascular, metabolic and endocrinological disorders. With a strong established business, we deliver therapies to millions of patients around the world every day.
Focus Areas
- Rare diseases: Build our newly formed rare diseases business following the acquisition of SpringWorks Therapeutics – the largest acquisition by Healthcare in nearly 20 years – delivering transformative therapies for desmoid tumors (Ogsiveo®) and NF1-associated plexiform neurofibromas (Gomekli®/Ezmekly®).
- Next-generation pipeline: Progress new modalities and targeted approaches, including antibody-drug conjugates and therapies that target how cancer cells repair DNA damage.
- Neurology, immunology and rare diseases: Expand into high unmet-need areas such as lupus and generalized myasthenia gravis, as well as additional rare diseases and hematological cancers.
THERAPEUTIC AREAS
Our Electronics Business
We are an integral part of the semiconductor ecosystem – and therefore of the infrastructure that makes AI possible. We enable high yields, reliability and scaling in semiconductor manufacturing by combining advanced materials with precision delivery systems and process control technologies, including metrology and inspection, that directly influence defectivity, uniformity and process stability across increasingly complex manufacturing environments.
Focus Areas
- Semiconductor manufacturing and AI-driven advanced nodes
- Optical technologies (Optronics; formerly Display Solutions)
- Metrology and inspection capabilities
Advancing possibility through science
We innovate across all our businesses – powered by internal discovery, partnerships, and acquisitions. In 2025, we invested €2.4 billion in R&D, backed by 6,500 R&D professionals globally.
AI is at the heart of how that work gets done. Across our businesses, researchers are using AI-driven systems to identify drug candidates faster, develop new molecules for rare diseases, and improve precision and consistency in manufacturing. At the same time, our Electronics business provides the advanced materials and process technologies that make AI infrastructure possible in the first place. That dual role – using AI to improve how science gets done, and enabling the materials that make AI work – is what makes our position distinctive.
Built to last – and adapt
Founded as a pharmacy in 1668, we are one of the world's oldest science and technology companies. Majority-owned (around 70%) by the founding family, now in its 13th generation, and publicly listed as a KGaA with the remaining shares publicly traded.

We work with academic leaders, biopharma pioneers, digital trailblazers, and semiconductor innovators – connecting the tools, materials and expertise that sit behind the scenes so fewer barriers stand between an idea and its real-world impact. Whether it is a life-saving medicine reaching a patient or the chip powering the device you are reading this on, we are present from the first experiments in a lab through to the systems that allow innovations to be produced reliably at scale. Recent moves include SpringWorks Therapeutics, Mirus Bio, Unity-SC, HUB Organoids, and a pending acquisition of JSR's chromatography business.
